Importance of prayer (Salah) according to the Quran and Hadith’s

Prayer is the second pillar of Islam. Five times of prayer are obligatory for all Muslims (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Mughrib, Isha). Saying prayer on its fixed times is the best practice, Islam told the value of prayer time through Quranic Ayah and Prophet Hades. Here are some Ayats and Hadith’s on the importance of Salah.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“O Fatima! If you want to meet me in the hereafter, increase your prostrations (that is, perform prayers more.)” (Musnad Ahmad)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“When man prostrates upon reciting a verse of prostration, Satan moves away from that place by crying and says, ‘I was destroyed. Man was ordered to prostrate and he did; thus, he deserved Paradise. I was also ordered to prostrate but I avoided prostrating. I deserve hellfire.’” (from Sahih Muslim: 81)

Abu Hurayra radiyallahu anh said:

 While the Messenger of Allah was passing by a grave, he asked, “Whose grave is it?” The Companions said, “It is the grave of such and such person.” The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “For this person in the grave, to perform a prayer of two-rak’ahs is better than all of your worldly goods.” (Tabarani, Majma’uz Zawaid)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“No Salat is more burdensome to the hypocrites than the Fajr (dawn) prayer and the ‘Isha’ (night) prayer; and if they knew their merits, they would come to them even if they had to crawl to do so.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. (Riyad as-Salihin 1073)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“The Prophet was leading the noon prayer. A man who was praying behind read the chapter beginning with, “Sabbihisma Rabbikal-a’la”. When the Prophet ended the prayer, he said, “Who among you was reading? Somebody said, “I was.” Thereupon, the Prophet said, “I thought the qira’ah of one of you mixed with mine.” (Muslim, Salah, 48)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The two Rak’ah before the dawn (Fajr) prayer are better than this world and all it contains.” [Muslim]……. (Riyad as-Salihin 1102)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

 “There is nothing superior to a person who is given by Allah the opportunity to perform a two-rak’ah prayer giving. As he is busy with praying, goodness and good deeds are poured onto him.” (Musnad Ahmad)

It is mentioned in the Quran:

When ye travel through the earth, there is no blame on you if ye shorten your prayers, for fear the Unbelievers May attack you: For the Unbelievers are unto you open enemies. [4:101]

in another place Quran says:

O children of Adam, you shall be clean and dress nicely when you go to the masjid. And eat and drink moderately; Surely, He does not love the gluttons. [7:31]

Here Quran describes believer:

“They are not all the same; among the followers of the scripture there are those who are righteous. They recite God’s revelations through the night while prostrating.” [3:113]
