Importance of prayer (Salah) according to the Quran and Hadith’s

Prayer is the second pillar of Islam. It is a way that connects a human with their creators. Five times of prayer are obligatory for all Muslims (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Mughrib, Isha). Islam told the value of prayer time through Quranic Ayah and Prophet Hadith. Here are some Ayats and Hadith’s on the importance of Salah.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

Indeed the first deed by which a servant will be called to account on the Day of Resurrection is his Salat. If it is complete, he is successful and saved, but if it is defective, he has failed and lost… (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 413)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“O Fatima! If you want to meet me in the hereafter, increase your prostrations (that is, perform prayers more.)” (Musnad Ahmad)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever attends Isha (prayer) in congregation, then he has (the reward as if he had) stood half of the night. And whoever prays Isha and Fajr in congregation, then he has (the reward as if he had) spend the entire night standing (in prayer).” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 221)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“No Salat is more burdensome to the hypocrites than the Fajr (dawn) prayer and the ‘Isha’ (night) prayer; and if they knew their merits, they would come to them even if they had to crawl to do so.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. (Riyad as-Salihin 1073)

Hazrat Abu Dharr radiyallahu anh said:

Once, the Prophet (pbuh) went out in winter. A lot of leaves were falling off the trees. When he held a branch of a tree, more leaves started to fall off. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said “O Abu Dharr!” I said, “Yes, o Messenger of Allah!” The Prophet (pbuh) said, “If a Muslim performs prayers in order to please Allah, his sins will be shed like the leaves of this tree are shed.” (Musnad Ahmad)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The two Rak’ah before the dawn (Fajr) prayer are better than this world and all it contains.” [Muslim]……. (Riyad as-Salihin 1102)

Reported from Hz. Ibn Abbas (r.a.) said:

“When a person who abandons prayers reaches Allah, he will see that Allah will have inflicted His wrath on him.” (Bazzar, Tabarani, Majma’uz Zawaid)

It is mentioned in the Quran:

Your (real) friends are (no less than) Allah, His Messenger, and the (fellowship of) believers,- those who establish regular prayers and regular charity, and they bow down humbly (in worship). [5:55]

in another place Quran says:

Say: “Truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death, are (all) for Allah, the Cherisher of the Worlds:(162) No partner hath He: this am I commanded, and I am the first of those who bow to His will.(163) [6:162-163]

Here Quran describes believer:

The Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe regular prayers, practise regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise. [9:71]
