Importance of prayer (Salah) according to the Quran and Hadith’s

Prayer is the second pillar of Islam. It is a way that connects a human with their creators, So Islam advices his followers to pray five time in a day. Five times of prayer are obligatory for all Muslims. Islam told the value of prayer time through Quranic Ayats and Prophet Hadith. Here are some Ayats and Hadith’s on the importance of Salah.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“On the Day of Judgment, a slave will be questioned about his prayers first. If his prayers are good, his other deeds will be good, too. If his prayers are bad, his other deeds will be bad, too.” (Tabarani, Targhib)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“A person who misses the afternoon prayer is like a person whose family and property have been destroyed.” (Jamiu’l Ahadith)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever attends Isha (prayer) in congregation, then he has (the reward as if he had) stood half of the night. And whoever prays Isha and Fajr in congregation, then he has (the reward as if he had) spend the entire night standing (in prayer).” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 221)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“No Salat is more burdensome to the hypocrites than the Fajr (dawn) prayer and the ‘Isha’ (night) prayer; and if they knew their merits, they would come to them even if they had to crawl to do so.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. (Riyad as-Salihin 1073)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

 “The key to Paradise is prayer; the key to prayer is wudu (ablution).” (Musnad Ahmad)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

 “The prayer of a person who performs five daily prayers without missing will be brightness, evidence and salvation for him on the Day of Judgment. A person who does not perform five daily prayers properly will be together with Qarun (Croesus), Haman, Pharaoh and Ubayy Ibn Khalaf.” (Musnad: 2/169, Darimi: 2/301, Ibn Hibban: 1448)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“The key to Paradise is Salat, and the key to Salat is Wudu’.”

It is mentioned in the Quran:

The only reasons why their contributions are not accepted are: that they reject Allah and His Messenger; that they come to prayer without earnestness; and that they offer contributions unwillingly. [9:54]

in another place Quran says:

[6:72] “To establish regular prayers and to fear Allah: for it is to Him that we shall be gathered together.”

Here Quran describes believer:

You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) at both ends of the day, and during the night. The righteous works wipe out the evil works. This is a reminder for those who would take heed. [11:114]
